BUCKHANNON - The Upshur County Board of Education, with assistance from the City of Buckhannon began the demolition and cleanup of the BOE's 9 and 11 East Victoria Street properties last week to expand a green space/playground area for Buckhannon Academy Elementary School students.

According to a recent report provided by Jerry Arnold, Director of Public Works (and read aloud by Mayor Robbie Skinner during the February 2nd City Council meeting), demolition is approximately eighty-five percent complete.

The Board of Education is absorbing all costs involved with the project, including disposal fees. The new green space/playground area is expected to be completed sometime in 2024 and will benefit nearly 750 students.
