Pare Lorentz was an American filmmaker known for his film work about the New Deal.

Born Leonard MacTaggart Lorentz in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he was educated at Buckhannon High School, West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Virginia University. He decided to take his father's name (Pare) as his own early in life.

Pare's final resting place is at the Heavner Cemetery located just north of Buckhannon, accessible via Hall Road.

He is widely considered to be the most influential documentary filmmakers of the Great Depression and is known as FDR's Filmmaker... one of Buckhannon's own.
