Buckhannon Scores Big: Poundstone Riverwalk Extension Design Gets $221,130 State Grant

CHARLESTON, WV - Governor Jim Justice has just announced the award of 38 grants worth a whopping $9,734,552 for the Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program.

These grants will fund various projects in 22 counties across the state, including Upshur County where the City of Buckhannon will receive a generous amount of $221,130.00 for the Design of the Buckhannon Poundstone Riverwalk Trail Extension.

"We've learned that investing in our cities, towns, and beautiful parks is one of the best ways to attract tourists and improve the daily lives of our residents," said Gov. Justice. "This program provides millions of dollars to make some of the best places in West Virginia more accessible, which will also enhance visitation throughout the state. The positive economic ripple effects will be off the charts, and I couldn't be prouder to approve these well-deserved initiatives."

Administered by the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) and funded by the Federal Highway Administration, these grants aim to help towns and cities build and improve sidewalks, lighting, walking paths, rail trails, and other recreational facilities. The total funding for each project includes both sponsor funding and the grant amount.
