This rare photograph from 1912 depicts a familiar scene along the intersection of E Main and N Kanawha Streets in downtown Buckhannon.

Conservatory of Music, West Virginia Wesleyan College - 1909

This rare photograph by Mac Avoy depicts West Virginia Wesleyan College's Conservatory of Music in 1909.

In 1890, the first school year, the Music Department began its work with a faculty of two and an enrollment of thirty-four.

In 1902, the board instructed the executive committee to proceed to erect a suitable building upon the campus to accommodate the Music Department and authorized a bond issue in the amount of $5,000 to cover its erection.

The building, though not completed, was in use beginning January 1903, having been erected at a cost of approximately $6,500.

A first-hand account of the Seminary Building fire is included with rare and exclusive photos - including an authentic Wesleyan University of West Virginia (W.V.W.U.) invitation to the June 5th, 1906 Alumni Day when the board of trustees permanently changed the institution's name to West Virginia Wesleyan College (W.V.W.C.) - and an eye-witness account of the fire.
