We have another submission from our Publisher sharing his grandmother's apple pie recipe this week. What makes it so special? Family tradition.

Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (3 cups Granny Smith, 3 cups Braeburn)

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar

  • 1 double-crust pie dough (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F

  2. Mix the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice in a large bowl.

  3. Roll out one of the pie crusts and place it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges, leaving about 1-inch overhang.

  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared crust, and dot the top with small pieces of unsalted butter.

  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the top of the apple filling. Trim the edges to match the bottom crust, and crimp the edges to seal.

  6. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

  7. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

  8. Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes until the crust is golden brown, and the filling is bubbling.

  9. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set.

Be sure to combine tart and sweet apples for this recipe's best flavor and texture. Other great options to consider besides Granny Smith and Braeburn are Honeycrisp, Jonathan, or Pink Lady apples.

And there you have it!. Combining tart, sweet, juicy apples and warm spices will make your taste buds dance. Give this recipe a try and let us know what you think.

Whether it's your grandma's famous chocolate chip cookies, a show-stopping birthday cake, or a savory pie that's been passed down through generations, we want to hear about your favorite baked goods.
