GLENVILLE, WV - An associate math professor has received the 2022 Glenville State University Faculty Award of Excellence.

Wenwen Du was recognized at the spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony on May 7.

“I am deeply grateful for this acknowledgment of my work by my colleagues, college leaders, and more importantly — students,” Du said. “It is a great feeling to know that I am on the right track. I hope I will continue to prove myself an asset to GSU in the years to come.”

Du has taught at Glenville State since 2014. Du teaches courses in calculus, algebra, and more.

He has a doctorate in mathematics, a master’s in secondary mathematics education and a master’s in materials science from the University of Kentucky at Lexington. Du also has a bachelor’s and a master’s in materials science and engineering from Southeast University in China.

Outside of his classroom obligations, Du is a co-advisor for Glenville State’s chapter of Chi Beta Phi and is a member of the campus Curriculum Assessment Committee. He has also been a member of Glenville’s Faculty Senate and Promotion and Tenure Committee and the West Virginia Higher Education Math Task Force.

“I am very thankful for the friendly work environment here at Glenville State. My colleagues provided incredible support and mentoring to me,” he said.

Du enjoys hiking, running and watching sporting events, particularly soccer, football, and basketball. He also runs material science research using mathematics, mostly during the summer and winter breaks.

He and his wife Christine Wang have two children, Krystal and Charles Du. They split their time between Glenville and Lexington. His father, Li Du, also resides in Glenville.

Each spring, the campus community nominates an outstanding faculty member for the award. Recipients must be full-time and have taught at Glenville State for at least two years to be eligible.

Names of the honorees are displayed on a permanent plaque in the Heflin Administration Building.
