BUCKHANNON - It takes a village to provide for shelter pets, and the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility (LUAC) would certainly be classified as such... a village.

LUAC and its fur baby residents can always benefit from many types of material donations, but volunteering is also a great way to help out.

Please note that if you donate food items, FOODS WITH RED DYES ARE NOT ACCEPTED AT THE LUAC FACILITY.

Volunteer In addition to donating materials or money, YOU can help LUAC by volunteering. Volunteers can help with:

  • Walking dogs

  • Supervising dog acclimation

  • Helping with socialization

Dog walkers provide the dogs with exercise and also benefit from the exercise themselves. Dogs that don't get out of their kennel for walks and playtime in the yard become depressed and anxious in the noisy environment.

Dog walkers are urgently needed to help with this task.

You can make a difference in the life of each dog that is waiting to be adopted by volunteering to help.

Interested individuals may contact the facility at 304-472-3865 to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Adopt or Foster a Shelter Animal LUAC depends on responsible families who are able to adopt and provide a forever home for these fur babies who've found themselves in the facility for a plethora of reasons.

Please open your home to a shelter dog who is waiting for a responsible forever home. Facility staff and volunteers are always available to help your family choose the perfect new family member.

The Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility is located at 318 Mudlick Road in Buckhannon, WV. Their hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 10:00am - 2:30pm and Saturday's from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Hours are also available by appointment.
