BUCKHANNON - During the latest Buckhannon City Council meeting on August 18th, Mayor Robbie Skinner announced plans to take the new city police officer recruits around Main Street so that local business owners can get to know them.

"With our 3 brand new police officers that are waiting in the wings before they go to the State Police Academy - and anybody's welcome to come - with I'm going to take them up and down Main Street for a couple hours one morning/one afternoon when Chief (Gregory) can release them for a little bit from their in-station training and just introduce them to the business owners," Skinner said.

"I think it's really good for the businesses and the people in Buckhannon to see (and) put faces with the names of these new folks. So, we'll coordinate that and get some time together where we think that the majority of the business will be open and we can just introduce them and get them comfortable with being out intermixing with our community. That’s going to be coming up soon," Skinner concluded.

In addition, City Recorder Randy Sanders expressed his appreciation to Police Chief Matt Gregory for sending Buckhannon Police Lieutenant Doug Loudin and the three new recruits to a recent Rotary meeting to provide a report on the National Night Out event.

Sanders stated that the reception was outstanding and their presence made a great an impact with them being there speaking to the club.
