Most of WV Under Flood Watch Labor Day, Including Upshur County

CHARLESTON, WV - The National Weather Service has placed almost every county in West Virginia under a flood watch through Monday evening.

According to meteorologists, “flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.”

The NWS message issued Monday morning also said “flooding may occur in poor drainage areas, urban areas, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Excessive runoff may also result in flooding of creeks and streams.”

The wet start to the first full week in September follows a very rainy August in West Virginia. Charleston received more than 9 inches of rain last month and more than 23 inches from June 1st through Aug. 31st, which set a new record.
