Number of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases in West Virginia Increases to Five

Three new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in West Virginia on Thursday, increasing the total to five. According to the DHHR, 237 people have been tested and 13 results are still pending.

Two of the new confirmed cases were in Tucker County and one was in Monongalia County, according to the DHHR. They join the previously reported cases in Jefferson and Mercer counties.

According to a press release from the DHHR. “All three new cases are travel related. “All three are being treated at home. No additional details will be released at this time.”

West Virginia was the last state to report a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Eastern Panhandle.

On Thursday, governor Jim Justice said he had been tested for the virus after coming into contact with the man who tested positive in Jefferson County. After a brief period of self-quarantine, the test came back negative, Justice said.

The governor also added barbershops, nail salons and hair dressers to the list of businesses closed throughout the Mountain State.
