Overturned Log Truck Blocks Traffic in Hinkleville for Several Hours

HINKLEVILLE, WV - On December 20, 2022 at approximately 2:30pm, Upshur County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle crash on Route 20 South in Hinkleville.
A loaded log truck and a pickup truck were both traveling Northbound. The pickup was waiting to turn into The General Store parking lot when the log truck couldn’t get stopped and rear ended the pickup. This caused the pickup to go across the parking lot of the store before coming to rest in a nearby yard.
The log truck lost control and overturned hitting a power pole loosing the logs onto the roadway. State Route 20 was closed and traffic detoured for several hours. Nearby residences and businesses were without power.
The crash was investigated by Deputy Collins, assisted by Chief Deputy Coffman and Deputy Chidester. Agencies on-scene to provide assistance included the Public Service Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division, Upshur County EMS, Adrian Fire Department, Buckhannon Fire Department and the West Virginia Department of Highways.
