Before we begin, meet Sammy the Squirrel. You can usually say 'hello' every morning while passing by the West Virginia Wesleyan College women's softball fields along Buckhannon's River Walk Trail.

He loves to hang out on the fence while greeting passers-by, and you'll surely know it's Sammy when you see him chewing on the chain links. He's crazy like that.

We're currently working with Sammy's Agent to sign him on as an official Investigative Reporter with Mountaineer News. He's nuts for news and chompin' at the bit! We'll keep you posted on any progress.

Please Note: Ordinance 397 of the City of Buckhannon prohibits feeding wild animals within city limits.

BUCKHANNON, WV - If you're not familiar with Buckhannon's landscape and happen to be in town for the Strawberry Festival this week, there's an easy way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown crowds if you're needing a quick escape from it all.

Welcome to Buckhannon's River Walk Trail

Along the trail, you can cool off on shaded benches overlooking the Buckhannon River; The scenery alone is worth the short trek. Take your dogs for a walk on the trail path or take them over to play in our wonderful fenced Dog Park situated along the trail.

Editor's note: Please be sure to clean up after your pets; Supplies are provided on-site in clearly marked locations.

The trail also features a boat launch and river access to the Buckhannon River, as well as the aforementioned new Dog Park and sports facilities for West Virginia Wesleyan College.

So, if you're looking for a little slice of heaven along the river here in beautiful "Sunnybuck", be sure to check out the River Walk Trail while you're in town.
