State Senators Hamilton and Karnes Present Another Check for Upshur County Youth Camp Bridge Project

BUCKHANNON - During the December 15th Upshur County Commission meeting, West Virginia State Senators from our 11th District, Bill Hamilton (R-Upshur) and Robert Karnes (R-Randolph) presented a check in the amount of $10,000.00 for the Upshur County 4-H Youth Camp Bridge project; this was in addition to the $10,000.00 previously allocated in August, 2022.

Given the number of items on the agenda during the December 15th meeting, I didn't have an open opportunity to sit down and ask Senators Karnes and Hamilton a few questions regarding controversial statements made by Karnes while in session earlier this month.
ICYMI: The most recent headlined statement from Senator Karnes came in early December, when he suggested that forced sexual contact in marriage is just a 'benefit to being married'...

Senator Karnes responded to a statement made by West Virginia Democratic Party Chair, Mike Pushkin regarding his comments and line of questioning with DeChristopher:
Pushkin stated in the release, "Just when you think Senator Karnes can’t get any sleazier, he finds a new way to shock and disgust. Earlier this year Karnes argued against allowing exemptions to West Virginia’s abortion ban for rape and incest victims because he believes child rape victims often ‘romanticize’ their adult abusers. Now he suggests that forced sexual contact in marriage is just a ‘benefit to being married.’ I’m afraid to think of what he’ll say next."
To which Karnes rebuffed, "Hard left minority leader Mike Pushkin’s current dishonest press release explains why Republicans just won 94% of WV state senate races. The voters of West Virginia are tired of the lies and distortions."
Was Senator Karnes' response adequate enough after watching the video? Was the referenced press release actually dishonest? That's for you to decide.
Keep in mind, Senator Robert Karnes is seemingly no stranger to using sensationalism to garner attention. In fact, he's often painted our state as a 'National-Foolery' at the expense of West Virginian's with his seemingly shameless efforts for self-promotion. If that's not his goal, then perhaps we should be a little more concerned.

Of course, these views are my own. I, for one, would never think it okay to sexually assault my wife, simply because she entered some unspoken pact via our wedding vows. How would one go about explaining something like that to a child or teenager?
I do not condone spousal abuse in any shape or form, and am simply pointing out that this particular state-elected official representing our district does not represent my own personal views or opinions regarding this particular topic for discussion... which I hope the State Senator is open to having in future public discourse.
Either way, we are all grateful for the donations received for the Upshur County 4-H Youth Camp Bridge repair project. Thank you, Senators!
