BUCKHANNON - The latest Buckhannon City Council meeting on August 18th included special guests from Upshur County Schools.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sara Lewis-Stankus and County Schools Financial Director Jeffrey Perkins were in attendance to address Council regarding the upcoming excess levy that will be on the General Election ballot on November 8th, 2022.

Dr. Stankus began by addressing council and the purpose of their visit... to talk about the Levy:

After a brief introduction, Dr. Stankus handed the discussion over to Financial Director Jerry Perkins, who addressed Council and provided a brief review of the levy processes:

Dr. Stankus further explained the differences between a bond and a levy while providing a brief overview as to where levy funds go to help the students of Upshur County... all without raising your taxes a single cent:

Dr. Stankus will be greatly missed at Upshur County Schools, but we know she will be a huge asset in her new position with the West Virginia Department of Education. She has been superintendent of Upshur County Schools for five years and has served in multiple counties as a teacher, special education teacher, counselor and principal. A few parting words:

We're proud of you, too, Dr. Stankus! Thank you for your service and dedication to Upshur County these past several years.

Buckhannon City Council voiced unanimous support for the levy's renewal.

Vote 'YES' to renew the levy on November 8th.
