Vintage West Virginia; On This Day in West Virginia History, October 24th
The Arisan Maru, a Japanese cargo ship carrying prisoners of war, was sunk by an American submarine on October 24, 1944, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,700 American soldiers, including a number of West Virginians.

Liberty Day March of 1917:
On October 24, 1917, hundreds of West Virginians gathered in Charleston on Liberty Day to march in the Liberty Loan parade, listen to patriotic speeches, and to purchase over $80,000 worth of Liberty Loans.
