Today we present another exclusive straight out of the Vintage Buckhannon Vault:

Upshur County Courthouse

The first is an extremely rare image depicting the old Upshur County Courthouse, c. 1892. The original Courthouse was built in 1854.

During the Civil War, the structure was damaged three times in the first six months by fire and ultimately endured heavy abuse via soldier occupation and gunfire. It was demolished in 1898 and replaced with our current Courthouse.

Public School Building

The second is an old, yet familiar image depicting a Main Street facility that is near and dear to all of us here in Upshur County... The Public Schools Building (now known as the Stockert Youth & Community Center), c. 1900.

T.L. Stockert Building

Speaking of the name Stockert, the third is an old postcard photo depicting a 'familiar' scene along Main Street in Downtown Buckhannon... The T.L. Stockert Building -aka- The Arlington Hotel, c. 1910.

A first-hand account of the Seminary Building fire is included with rare and exclusive photos - including an authentic Wesleyan University of West Virginia (W.V.W.U.) invitation to the June 5th, 1906 Alumni Day when the board of trustees permanently changed the institution's name to West Virginia Wesleyan College (W.V.W.C.) - and an eye-witness account of the fire.
