Vintage Buckhannon

This week, it's another DOUBLE-SHOT exclusive straight out of the Vintage Buckhannon Vault:

Photo 1:

"Old private house, now a tourist home..." - Wolcott, September 1938

This Library of Congress photograph depicts a familiar home located at 76 E. Main street. It was taken for the Farm Security Administration (FSA) by a Marion Post photographer (Wolcott) in September of 1938.

The label reads: "Old private house, now a tourist home. Buckhannon, West Virginia."

A Governor's Inn was the most recent 'tourist home' at this location, but it closed in May of 2021 and the home is now once again a private residence.

Photo 2:

Inside the Acme Bookstore at 15 E. Main Street - 1951

This rare photograph from 1951 depicts shoppers inside the ACME BOOKSTORE, which was located at 15 E. Main Street. It was once the go-to place for school supplies, periodicals, post cards and sports equipment. They served Buckhannon for nearly sixty years.
